I am defiant, I am headstrong, I am stubborn, I am temperamental when I see something that is a wrong and I am bullheaded to the point of self-destructive tendencies if I don’t keep myself in check.
These qualities made me an excellent athlete and a beat-up lifter. These qualities also allow me to surround myself with people who balance me out.
When I have something going on in my life, I can count on very few people to pop it straight to me.
Part of my personality is that I don’t want people praising me, I don’t want attention and “yes men”, I don’t want bullshit to be told to me and I don’t want someone to beat around the bush. I want it straight and I want the brutal truth even if I hate it.
I am lucky to have people around me, here and in other places, that will tell me how it is even if they know that hearing it will suck.
Some are people I have known almost my whole life, some are those I have known for a couple years and I try to do the same for them.
I’ve had ups, I’ve had downs, I’ve been through things most people can’t comprehend in their little bubble and I’ve had joys so high that I wished they would never end. During all that time, my trusted circle of friends didn’t care if I was the king of the hill or the bottom of a shoe. They were consistent and they were always there.
It doesn’t matter how famous you are or how poor you are, if you don’t have people in your life speaking wisdom and truth, as only a real friend can, to you; you are a poor person. Its the people you associate with who will make you who you are.
Friends don’t care how much you lift, how you look in a picture. Friends don’t care that your e-book sold 5000 copies or 10. Friends don’t care if you are the top in your field or a broken down old timer. Friends don’t care what you can do for them or how much you can advance their career by using you. Friends care about one thing, the person inside.
For that, I am blessed and no matter if I am rich, poor, strong, weak, fat or fit. I consider myself lucky in some ways and this is one huge reason why.
The remainder of the luck is yet to be determined…
